A pergola trades total sun-blocking for light, air, and a view of the sky — and for a lot of yards that's the right trade. Vines and string lights have somewhere to live. And plenty of architectural committees approve an open structure more readily than a solid one. Timber pergolas are the classic: heavy posts, deep beams, stain matched to the house. They look like furniture for your yard and they age like wood ages in Texas — which means a stain-and-seal cycle every few years, and honest talk from us about which species hold up. Aluminum pergolas get powder-coated once at the factory and then ignore the weather for decades; modern profiles read as painted wood from ten feet away. Price them both — the gap is smaller than most people expect, and the maintenance math often decides it.

Adjustable-louver pergolas put the slats on pivots: open for winter sun, angled for summer afternoons, closed tight when a storm rolls up the corridor. Motorized systems with rain sensors exist and we install them; they're the premium tier of the pergola world, priced above fixed lattice and below what most people guess.
