Screen Rooms: the Cover's Second Act

New Braunfels lives outdoors on purpose — two rivers run through town and evenings are the payoff for surviving the afternoon. The catch is that dusk belongs to the mosquitoes, especially anywhere near water or a greenbelt, and a spring evening can be perfect right up until you're the buffet. A screen room keeps the air moving and the insects on their side of the mesh. It also quietly extends the calendar: screened spaces stay pleasant earlier in spring and later into fall, and a north-wind January day is suddenly usable with a patio heater going.

The retrofit. If you already have a solid cover in decent shape, screen walls mount to its posts and beams: framed panels, a self-closing door or two, and a kickplate that survives dogs and chair legs. This is the fastest project we do, and it's the natural second phase for covers we built a year or two earlier.

The combined build. Starting from a bare slab, we design the cover and the screen system together — posts placed for door swings, beam heights set for panel lines, wiring for fans and lights run before any mesh goes up. One permit cycle, one HOA submittal, one crew mobilization, and a finished room instead of a phased compromise.

• Doors placed for how you live — one at the yard, one at the grill path, self-closing hinges on both so nobody has to be the screen-door sheriff.
• Pet-resistant panels down low where paws and noses hit first.
• Tight lines at the slab — mesh that stops an inch short of concrete is a mosquito freeway; ours gets sealed base track.
• Fans on their own switch, because moving air is half of what makes a Texas screen room work.

Screen rooms are big with young families in Cibolo — toddler containment plus bug control is a strong sell — and with Canyon Lake owners whose lots back up to brush that hums after dark. Either way it starts with a measured visit and a written number.
